Through clinical and academic roles at Tennessee Oncology, Thompson Cancer Survival Center, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Wesley Long Cancer Center, Dr. Chism has developed a broad understanding of oncology practice across varied care environments. This experience informs his perspective on clinical strategy, medical education, physician leadership, and the delivery of high-quality cancer care.

Clinical Research & Cancer Care Delivery

As Medical Director of Clinical Research, Dr. Chism led the design, implementation, and evaluation of investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored studies across multiple disease sites.

His experience includes clinical trial strategy, correlative science, patient safety, research quality, regulatory and ethical compliance, and operational performance. His national leadership has also included work focused on oncology workforce sustainability, quality improvement, and high-value cancer care.

As a published investigator, Dr. Chism has contributed to research spanning genitourinary oncology, immunotherapy, emerging systemic treatments, cancer disparities, cardio-oncology, and the effects of COVID-19 on patients with cancer. His work includes participation in collaborative studies and clinical trials examining both treatment advances and the broader factors affecting patient outcomes.

His service through national oncology committees has further informed his understanding of access to clinical trials, research standards, workforce challenges, and care delivery across the United States.
